It's a good point which I hadn't thought of.

I don't see any other solution than defining your own output method.

You could do it by subclassing either the XMLOutputHandler class which
generates valid XML but do not so any element specific treatment or the
HTMLOutputHandler which generates HTML and does a lot of element
specific treatment.

Implementing such an output handler complying with the recommendation
"Appendix C. HTML Compatibility Guidelines" would probably be a very
useful task.

If you want to go in this direction, I may be able to help if you need.
