IMHO, the cleanest way would be to add formatting instructions (ala FO)
in the result tree using a separate namespace. The solution would be
independent of the XT extensions.

Has anyone ever have the idea of defining a "XML CSS" which could be
written as standard CSS by a specific output handler ?
The same could also apply to some extent to Javascript.

Yes, could be... The output method itself could be another
transformation !
My point was also that it would be nice to do these adjustments as a
last step after the logic of the composition of the page and just before
sending the document to the browser.
With the early releases of Cocoon, this wasn't possible and the browser
adjustment was limited to choosing a different transformation.
Thanks for your answers. I wonder if/when I will have enough time to
implement these kind of features, but I think it's something worth
discussing !
