Which encoding is this ?
If your problem is only with the output handler, you may have a look at
the XHTML Output Handler I have published.
It's an adaptation of the XML output method to :
1) Be conform with the annexes C2 and C3 of the XHTML recommendation.
2) Be able to select the output encoding like it's done with the
standard HTML output method.
If you think it can solve your problem, It won't take me long to do the
same for a "normal" XML output method (I mean keeping only the 2).
It's not so difficult, but I still have in mind the places to update...
