     PS. I think XT has to be 100% conformant to w3c papers.
     I think that'll be hard to do fast without any help from James,
     but possible. There are also some other possible variations
     on top of XT, but 'being 100% conformant' is the most
     important thing, I think.

I must admit that was my reason for switching from xt to Saxon when
I need a complete implementation. On that basis I must also agree
with Paul. XT's strength is its speed, so perhaps time is not quite
so important as getting a good implementation which maintains the
speed that James set?
